Hessdalen has long traditions in accommodating guests and visitors. Some farms were more often used to shool people by horse, to the mountain farms by Herssjøen and Øyungen. It was not until after World War II that car traffic picked up, but these trips were often a challenge for both car and driver. Now you can easily reach these mountain farm regions in minutes, and with good road conditions.
Visitors today often choose to rent a cabin / house when visiting the valley, and there are several that offer rental, by Herssjøen among other places.
